About the Carbon Disclosure Project
Founded in London in 2000, the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) is a non-profit organisation that encourages companies and governments to disclose their environmental data such as greenhouse gas emissions and water consumption. Once a year CDP – acting on behalf of investors – uses standardised questionnaires to collect voluntary data and information on companies’ CO2 emissions and climate risks and on their targets and strategies for reducing them. CDP now manages the biggest database of its kind worldwide.
More than 655 institutional investors support the project as Signatory Investors. These investors manage a combined total of more than USD 78 billion in assets and thus control most of the world’s biggest listed companies in terms of sales. CDP is independent and funded by a wide range of sponsors, as well as through membership contributions and specific projects and partnerships. The data disclosed by companies and the annual CDP reports are available free of charge on the CDP website for all interested parties to view. Investors who support CDP also have access to information that is not publicly available.
